A new study from Synergy Research revealed that enterprise spending on cloud infrastructure services increased immensely in 2020 while enterprise spending on data centre hardware and software lessened.
Indeed, due to remote working, enterprise cloud infrastructure kept on rising all throughout the past years to hit almost £93.3bn. On the other hand, enterprise spending on data centre hardware and software fell by 6%, to less than $90bn.
Cloud infrastructure services have seen the growth of the platform as a service (PaaS), including database, IoT and analytics. Moreover, it was also reported that three in five servers were sold to cloud providers’ data centres instead of those of enterprises.
Thus, the study expects a continuation of cloud growth over the next five years.
