Defra to create a new cloud sustainability project for the UK government
It was recently announced that the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra) will launch a new project creating a cloud-focused IT sustainability standard for the UK government.
This project will include the development of a cloud sustainability workstream that will be accessed throughout government departments and private sector firms in order to improve the environmental friendliness of their IT supply chains.
It aims to accelerate the adoption of cloud services in the public sector through the One Government Cloud Strategy.
The standard will be focused on ‘Sustainable IT’ and ‘IT for Sustainability’ and the details of the resulting sustainability-focused IT standard should be known by early April.
By leading this new cloud sustainability project, Defra is seeking to support the way providers deliver cloud to ensure sustainable development.
