A recent report by ABB Power Conversion showed that more than half of data centre professionals are considering to increase their power system upgrades.
Indeed, it was revealed that the demand for data centre exploded in 2020 following the pandemic and the need to have remote working software and infrastructure. Besides, the report also stated raising concerns especially regarding the reliance on the cloud and the rise of cloud-based business platforms.
Moreover, it was shown that 52% of respondents declared considering direct current (DC) power architectures to either upgrade or supplement their existing power systems. This would improve power distribution efficiency and provide higher reliability.
Finally, the report emphasized the fact that data centre operators are reprioritizing the power architectures at the heart of their facilities as a key consideration for scale.
With the increasing demands for data centres in 2021, it is necessary to introduce a decentralised, distributed DC power architecture that has the flexibility to adapt and keep pace with whatever comes next.
