It was recently announced that the European Commission would allow the flow of personal data from the EU to the UK to continue.
Indeed, the European Commission adopted two data adequacy decisions that will be running out after four years, except if the UK ensures an adequate level of data protection. This initiative is positive news for UK firms that don’ have to find costly alternative plans with EU and EEA firms to keep data flowing.
The decision was taken in order to promote the free flow of personal data globally and across borders, as well as assure smooth trade and an effective fight against crime.
However, it was stated that the Commission would intervene if the UK deviates from the level of protection currently in place.
