Amazon is suspected to be building a new superfast computing data center in Swindon.
Indeed, the company seems to be behind the scheme aiming to demolish two old data halls and build a new one, which will be bigger and more modern. This new data center will then enable extra fast cloud computing once the scheme is approved by Swindon Borough Council planners.
Besides, the center will have a strong focus on sustainability through programmes trying to reduce its carbon footprint and achieve net-zero carbon by 2040. It will be far more efficient than traditional on-premises servers, with the goal to reach over 80% greater energy efficiency compared with a standard building of its type.
It is also reported that the construction and fit-out will create up to 400 jobs as well as the continuing operations will bring 40 to 50 jobs in the next three years.
