New legislation will allow the Irish police to collect data on people’s electronic devices when carrying out a search warrant.
Indeed, this law is to be published by the Irish Justice Minister and will enable the collection of data and passwords in order to help the current investigations. It was also announced that special measures will be put into place for children and disabled people.
This then aims to create a system that is easier and more effective all the while trying to make it clear, transparent, and accessible.
This legislation is however very complex but will work to have a strong focus on the fundamental rights and procedural rights of the accused. By doing so, the Irish police hope to maintain a balance in the criminal justice system as well as ensuring greater clarity and streamlining of Garda powers.
