New system using blockchain to fight online piracy

Date

Researchers from Microsoft have developed a new way to fight online piracy by using blockchain.

Indeed, the new system, called Argus, will be running on the Ethereum blockchain and will aim to provide a more open and transparent way to fight piracy and reward those involved in doing so.

With the rise in online piracy and the serious threat it represents, it is vital to find a way to fight it efficiently. Argus will then allow users to anonymously report piracy in exchange for a reward. The system will be tracing pirated content back to the source by using a unique watermark that corresponds with a code.

This new system aims to change and eventually stop online piracy to prevent abuse and false accusations. The company hasn’t yet decided if it would go forward with bringing Argus to market.
