University College London (UCL) and Newham Council have recently published a new report announcing the creation of 5.500 open data jobs by 2035.
Indeed, the brought aims to become a data economy hub as well as give residents the tools and skills they need to understand the value of data. It also hopes to have digital innovation centers accessible to every resident so that they can learn about data and coding, and establish an official digital identity system. With this new digital entity – called Spark ID – people would be able to access Newham’s services or prove their identity easily.
Moreover, the borough wants to standardise data collection and sharing across the capital as well as set up a network of universal basic services so as to help the development of a data sector. By doing so, it would hopefully implement standardised data structures in order to incorporate with other local data to amplify the total value.
This initiative would then lead to the creation of over 5,500 new jobs by 2035, and provide £104m to the local economy to benefit residents and businesses.
