Widespread outage linked to a cloud provider

Date

On Tuesday morning, dozens of major websites were reported to be offline for around an hour in what seemed to be a widespread outage linked to a cloud provider.

Indeed, after many leading websites such as the UK government’s websites, The Guardian, Financial Times, and the New York Times, among others, could not be reached due to an apparent error, it was found out that the problem came from a certain cloud service provider.

US company Fastly is a content delivery network (CDN) that provides faster loading times, was behind the outage as it confirmed an issue that impacted the performance of its CDN services.

Fortunately, the issue was identified and resolved quickly after, although customers may experience increased origin load as global services return.
